Little kouhai, even if he doesn’t particularly need that much Is doing at the start of the Shiratorizawa match is to motivate his May be salty about it, and whine about the Goshiki’s ego, but what Tendou To the younger dudes like Goshiki or, in some of the later manga chapters, Hinata. Sardonic sense of humor aside, which I’m willing to bet originates in a lifetime of being bullied, he’s a very supportive guy. None of the Haikyuu characters are, really. This isn’t to say Tendou is a bad guy, of course. The idea here is, of course, that Karasuno’s willpower is its main force, and also that a lot of the crows are kinda crazy volleyball monsters (looking at you, Kageyama). Throughout the match against Karasuno, he tries to get a rise out of Suga, Tsukki, Kageyama etc, and most of the time he’s the one that ends up being angry. It must be said, though, that he doesn’t seem to be particularly good, at least in the plays we see. Tendou’s style seems to consist of annoying the hell out of his opponent one moment, and being really frigging intimidating the next. You see some people, like Kuroo or Oikawa, being very vocal about it, while Kageyama or Shirabu don’t so much talk as virtually bitch slap people by using a dump at a stupid time. I personally live for these psychological battles at the net. He very specifically tries to take some of the heat off Ushijima and Shirabu by riling up the other team. Tendou uses these observations in volleyball games to ‘guess’ the next move of his opponents, but coupled with his innate need to be a showman, it kinda turns into a form of psychological warfare. Noticing some kind of behaviour and commenting on it. Like half of his dialogue in Season 3 is him Tendou, specifically, shows his observing This tendency sticks around even when they have a supportive community around them. But they’re still interested in others so they spend a lot of time on their own, observing the group from afar. They’re both people who aren’t, or weren’t, really part of a group. His story is surprisingly similar to Kenma’s in that regard. Sad to say that my main guess for why he’s like that has to do with how he spent some time being an outcast. People watcher and Satori does show that he’s basically always looking The reason he’s so good at pushing people’s buttons is the same reason he’s the ‘guess monster’: he can predict people’s movements. He LOVES this stuff and it is one of his main strengths. The most gleefully unsubtle out of all of them. People like Kuroo or Daishou, who try to get a psychological edge on opponents. He’s far from the only manipulator on the show. Tendou is a character that plays everyone around him and he friggin loves doing so. I do, however, believe that he knows what he’s doing and that he enjoys it. And we don’t really know what’s underneath I’m personally convinced that a large part of this energy, of All those guys in the screenshot up there are reacting to the exact same thing, but only one of them is about to pull his hair out in horror. Tendou is a very expressive person, but all those big gestures can seem He makes this happen by overdoing it a little. What he wants is for people to react to him, be that good or bad. Shouting his name, getting a rise out of Suga or Tsukki, even unearthing an overdose of confidence in Goshiki. This is a character that thrives on the cheers of theĬrowd, and while I want to say he loves the attention, what he really Loud, he’s twitchy, he’s exuberant and he has zero shame about Out of the way first: dude is a full on circus performance. But that’s before Furudate unlocks his tragic back storyĪnd suddenly we’re looking at him in a new light, bla bla, let’s roll The anime goes so far as to use Full Horror Movie tropes on many of his appearances. I absolutely despised him in the first fewĬhapters he was in. More colourful characters in the line-up of mostly crazy athleticĪs with most of the antagonists, he gets introduced to us Sports anime theorist, gamer, collector of random skills and adventures.
